COUNTRY: Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan
YEAR: 2002 – 2003
CLIENT: Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The study reviewed regional infrastructure requirements in four countries where the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) carries out major community development programmes (Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan). The study reviewed current development programmes and based on extensive discussions with stakeholders and intensive feasibility study identified a long list of over 60 projects for consideration. These were reduced through a process of sequential appraisal to generate a shortlist of eight 'anchor' projects, for which potential funding options were reviewed. These projects were subject to more detailed feasibility analysis and the development of a brief prospectus for each to attract funding from potential multilateral, bilateral and private sources of finance.
